Introduction

Most Christians today believe this story illustrates the final state of believers and unbelievers after physical death. In my opinion this is a gross misrepresentation of the Parable.

Many scholars have used this particular portion of Scripture to substantiate their ‘Eternal Torment in Hell’ doctrine.

Let’s establish exactly to whom Jesus was speaking, if we do this we will be half way there to understanding the purpose of the Parable.

  • Luk 16:14-15 KJV And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. 15 And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.
